The head assembly provides a locking and pivoting spear tip mechanism for inserting and removing the inner tube assembly, a bearing assembly for keeping the inner tube stationary and preventing damage to the sample during drilling, a fluid pressure operation indicator, and a fluid control valve. All head assemblies contain a stop valve assembly that provides a fluid pressure signal to the drilling operator indicating that the inner pipe is full or plugged when the valve is compressed.
